Assemble and Display

The flatpack ornament kits for Bright Beam Goods are an elegant solution to ornament storage. The pieces are designed to fit without the need for glue, so the ornaments can be stored in their original packaging when not in use to prevent them from being damaged as well as taking up less space.

The ornaments come in a variety of animal styles that work well with the multi-axis configuration when assembled. Each kit comes with a string that is incorporated into the design of the packaging, separating the name of the kit from the Bright Beam Goods mark. The back card keeps the ornament from moving while packaged and includes instructions for assembly.

A tricky aspect of designing the kits was to keep them all interesting to assemble and visually pleasing from multiple angles. Finding a balance between the number of pieces and the cost of production was an important aspect to a design's success.

Packaging

The packaging consists of a paper card to back the kit, a clear plastic sleeve, and the product itself. The minimalist packging protects the product but relies on the product for structure. This makes them very economical in shipping and material use.

Retail Display

To display the ornament kits in a retail setting, a small display holding four different kits and two assembled samples was designed to keep the kits front and center.

The displays are made from the same 1/8in plywood and ship flat. The retail store received simple instructions for assembling the display, which doesn't require glue to stay together.
